About Me

“A TRUE POET UNDERSTANDS WHEN LIFE APPEARS BLACK AND WHITE, WE MUST COLOR SCHEME IT.”
-@TRUEPOETPZA

Lyssa True Poet aka “PZA” is a multifaceted writer, a licensed barber, and overall creative individual. As the daughter of a DJ, she fell in love with hip hop at a very young age. She is a lyrical rare breed, bringing a variety of styles and undeniable authenticity that is missing in a lot of today’s music. Having survived a variety of circumstances throughout adolescence, 6 years of incarceration, a life threatening disease which left her hospitalized in 2015, and a number of surgeries resulting in permanent nerve damage, overcoming against all odds is a part of PZA’s DNA. Sharing these stories through sound and poetry has been a therapeutic saving grace. Debuting in 2016 with R.A.P. (Rhythm And Poetry) Vol. 1, an insightful mixtape delivering colorful storytelling and thoughtful self reflections. The follow up album, 2018’s, Truth Serum, Lyssa travels through her upbringing through darker sounds, hard hitting drums, and witty back to back punch lines. In 2019, she delivered another lyrical gem, Patience & Potholes. Throughout each of the 9 records, she vividly paints her real life experiences with raw honesty and poetic grace. Lyssa’s early influences include The Fugees, DMX, Dead Prez, The Lox, UGK, Missy Elliot, Wu-Tang Clan, OutKast, Da Brat and TLC.
