“A TRUE POET UNDERSTANDS WHEN LIFE APPEARS BLACK AND WHITE, WE MUST COLOR SCHEME IT.”
-@TRUEPOETPZA

Lyssa True Poet, aka True Poet PZA, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work lives at the intersection of sound, poetry, and lived experience. Raised by a DJ and rooted in hip hop culture from an early age, her relationship with music has always been intimate, intentional, and lyric-driven.

A rare voice in an era of excess, True Poet PZA brings range, restraint, and emotional precision to her writing, balancing grit with grace and reflection with rhythm. Her artistry is shaped by survival and self-definition, navigating adolescence, six years of incarceration, a life-threatening illness in 2015, and multiple surgeries resulting in permanent nerve damage. Storytelling became both refuge and release, sound as survival and poetry as preservation.

She debuted in 2016 with R.A.P. (Rhythm And Poetry) Vol. 1, an introspective mixtape grounded in vivid storytelling and internal dialogue. Her 2018 album Truth Serum leaned into darker textures and sharper delivery, tracing her upbringing through hard-hitting drums and tightly woven wordplay. In 2019, Patience & Potholes continued that evolution, nine records marked by raw honesty, measured vulnerability, and poetic control.

Her sound moves freely between classic lyricism and modern restraint, timeless but firmly present. Today, True Poet PZA’s music stands as lived documentation, reflective without nostalgia and grounded without compromise. Her work is less about chasing moments and more about honoring process, creating from truth and not trend.
